Impacts of Drought on Rural Livelihoods; Evidence of Climate Change Affected Areas of Amhara Region, Ethiopia
Droughts have had disastrous impacts on the Amhara region in Ethiopia, devastating crops, decreasing water and food availability, and resulting in tragic loss of life. Understanding droughts and climate change is critical to the government and has spurred collaboration between policymakers, governmental, and nongovernmental organizations to analyze the impacts of droughts and improve the resilience of affected communities. This research will focus on the drought-affected areas of the Amhara region, with particular emphasis on the Waghemera Zone, one of the areas most prone to drought.
Assessing Climate Change Impacts on Natural Environments in Naâma Region, Algeria
This CARP project focuses on evaluating the impact of climate change on the natural environment of the Naâma Province in the western highlands of Algeria. The region is experiencing desertification and degradation of ecosystems due to recurrent droughts, insufficient precipitation, and human activities. The research aims to assess these impacts from various perspectives, including their effects on people, soil, and water resources. Furthermore, the project seeks to provide effective strategies for adapting to and mitigating climate change, aiming to reduce rural migration and prevent widespread land abandonment.
Limits on Access to Climate Adaptive Strategies for Farming Households in Ebenat District, Ethiopia.
Ebenat District in the Amhara region of Ethiopia is prone to droughts and has been the government's focus for incorporating climate-adaptive strategies. The district comprises 29 food-insecure rural kebeles, all of whom are beneficiaries of the Productive Safety Net Program (PSNP). This research focuses on assessing the adaptive strategies used by the Kebeles and barriers to adopting recommended strategies.
