Alberto Francioli

Projects Manager, PERIPERI U Secretariat

Mr Alberto Francioli is a South African researcher turned projects manager working in the field of Disaster Risk Science and Development Studies. He is based at Stellenbosch University in which he works at the Secretariat for PERIPERI U, a consortium of 12 African universities. His scope of work includes activities related to supporting management of the Periperi U initiative as well as specific secretariat projects and activities. It also includes organising and or participating in strategic engagements to advocate for Higher Education involvement in the Disaster Risk field at management and policy making level. He is also involved in providing logistical and operational support to PERIPERI U’s training and capacity development related activities such as online and in-person training workshops such as the African Risk Methods School (ARMS). Alberto Francioli also served as a member of the African Youth Advisory Board for Disaster Risk Reduction (AYAB DRR), a youth-focused group advising the African Union between 2019 and 2023.

Alberto is involved in overseeing and supporting the implementation of the 33 CARP research projects across 10 African countries. This includes reviewing workplans and progress reports, assisting in contracting and distribution of financial resources, coordinating online engagements and communication, as well as organising logistics for in-person workshops of the CARP researchers
